iPhone 3G and Nokia N95: photo sensors to compare!

| 1 Letture Filed under Nokia, TEST, iPhone | Written by Xanny | 1 Reads

And 'the article that I always wanted to do, now inspired by yet discussion of the photo sensor' s iPhone that they say more than most 'noble by 5Mpx although only 2mpx, I decided to make the comparison impossible : D - Updated with pictures taken by N76.

How many times have we heard that the iPhone camera was superior in quality 'to those of the most' noble 5Mpx phones with cameras? Many of them but none had shown a real test here it is.

How and 'was implemented, we got a Nokia N95, I set the camera to take pictures 2mpx to learn not to do comparisons, and selected with the same illumination 2 subjects with which to compare performance color and definition. Then we took pictures to subjects selected computer and download it without any modification or setting other than the standard.

N95 had firmware series 21 and flash disabled

IPhone Firmware 2.0 5A347 (latest)

Here are the results.

Start with comparing the Subject 1:

Soggetto 1 con N95 impostato a 2Mpixel

Subject 1 with N95 set to 2Mpixel

This' shooting of the N95 set to 2Mpixel slightly saturated colors, excellent definition but on the whole, can be seen only at magnification artifacts ( "the Grain") typical of the photos taken by mobile phones in low light conditions.

N76 basic settings without a flash

Now as per the request of some users run a shot with a cell phone "normal" for a couple of years ago, a Nokia N76 without flash and basic settings. Fw series 31. The photo is tending toward green, very opposed, slightly saturated, you notice artifacts (grain) in parts visible light or less exposed, a middle way but very similar to the iPhone.

Soggetto 1 ripreso con Apple iPhone

1 person taken with Apple iPhone 3G

Shooting of the iPhone shows colors washed out, one made more 'dull and definitely full of artifacts, in short, a typical picture of an older generation phone.

The weight of the photos and 'of 432Kb for Nokia and 460KB for iPhone 3G.

The metadata of the photo show for the 'N95 300dpi density' while 's iPhone only 72dpi, the aperture and' the same F / 2.8, other data such as sailing 'focal length and shutter are not confontabili because the iPhone has it autofous shutter.

We go to Subject 2:

N95 Soggetto 2

N95 Subject 2

Here we wanted to test the complex fire, artifacts and color 2 with 2 light sources composed.

The photo shows N95 faithful color and artifacts (grain) only visible under magnification and a definition of excellent text for a cell phone.

iPhone 3G foto Soggetto 2

iPhone 3G Photos Subject 2

The camera of the iPhone here unfortunately shows all its limitations, the picture is out of focus and artifacts are very important, the color is not corresponding to reality '.

So summing up the question: the camera of the iPhone despite a 2mpx and 'higher quality'?
The answer 'definitely NO!, But it' similar to what you can 'have with phones such as N76 or otherwise equipped with sensors of low quality'.

The photos have outdoor identical results showing a clear effect of grain, no taking pictures is not 'a task suited for the iPhone.

As soon as 'available TOMTOM Navigator or an actual screen with voice guidance and turn by turn for the iPhone compare it with the basic consideration for Nokia, for now is not' compare to peers.

We both smartphones and no one faction will stand by each other, we try to be objective, and 'the purpose of creating this blog, to inform without being partisan.

Unfortunately the comparison is unequal ... even if you set the quality 2mpx with N95 always has a better perspective than iphone .. the comparison should be made between the iPhone and a Nokia phone with camera 2mpx (see N70, N76, N81 and others) cmq the difference is clear, unfortunately :-)

ok good idea to the faro 'tonight. though the original meaning was to make a real comfutazione on facts between those who say that the camera of the iPhone and 'high quality' despite only 2mpx.
